Asbestos Inspection FAQs

What is an ACP5?

An ACP5 is the Department of Environmental Protection Asbestos Assessment Report that verifies that your project is free from asbestos. New York City Local Law 76/85 requires an investigation to confirm that no asbestos is present in the materials that will be disturbed during construction.

The ACP5 must be included with signed and sealed drawings to any construction package that is filed with the New York City Department of Buildings (DOB).

What does this mean for you? It means you need an asbestos inspection before starting construction.

How fast can I receive my ACP5?

From inspection to ACP5, turnaround time is usually 48 hours. Having your construction drawings ready for our team to review will expedite the process. Need it faster? No problem, most inspections can be expedited for an additional fee.

How long does an asbestos inspection take?

Most asbestos inspections take under an hour to complete, however the duration of the inspection will depend on how big the project is.

Who needs to be present at the inspection?

Only the inspector needs to be at the inspection, but it is up to you if the client, architect, engineer, or construction manager will be present as well.

What happens during the inspection?

Before the inspection, our inspector will review the project’s construction drawings, specifically the demolition plans to see which areas will be disturbed. Once this has been evaluated, the inspector will determine how many samples will need to be taken. During the inspection, the inspector will probe into select areas to retrieve samples. These samples will then be sent to our certified laboratory partners for analysis.

How will I receive the ACP5?

After a successful inspection where no asbestos is reported, our team will issue the ACP5 and email you a digital copy for your record. We will send original, signed and stamped copies for filing with the DOB. Have questions? Our support and fulfillment team can help!

What happens if asbestos is found?

In projects where asbestos is found, our report will note the contamination locations and the amount of asbestos present. Our team will guide you through the options for asbestos abatement.

Where do you conduct inspections?

Our team inspects projects in all five New York City boroughs (Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Staten Island), Nassau County, and select cities in the Hudson Valley.
